An MTN engineer and a UBA or Zenith banker prove the salary with HR, not the company’s CAC

Summary: An MTN engineer uploads the payslip and HR letter from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, plus the PenCom statement that names that company. A UBA or Zenith banker uploads the same three from that bank. The salary credit is inside the bank, so without the HR letter the statement is only a customer’s. The worked MTN net is ₦687,000 a month, and six months of that net is ₦4,122,000, which is CAD $4,231.52.

MTN pays you from outside the account. Zenith and UBA pay you inside it

A network engineer at MTN is on the payroll of MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. The credit on whatever bank they use should name that company, or the payroll run that matches the payslip. PAYE on a Lagos payslip is a Lagos State Internal Revenue Service deduction, not a federal story you invent. The PenCom history has to show the employer as MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. “MTN” on a letter, with a different name on the pension schedule, is two employers.

A banker at United Bank for Africa Plc or Zenith Bank Plc is the opposite credit. The statement is already a UBA or Zenith account, and salary is an internal posting, often just “salary” or “net pay”, with no outside sender. A customer of that bank has the same logo on the statement. Human Resources has to say the staff number, the grade, and the date you are back. A branch colleague’s letter does not.

Neither job is a business. MTN’s incorporation papers, or the bank’s, are not your CAC. Customer receipts, airtime sales, and a staff loan are not the net pay. The graduation file on the Nigeria refusal page was refused for business income. Do not dress that file up as an MTN or a bank salary.

What each Nigerian payroll actually has to show

Two worked jobs. Not a salary scale from MTN, UBA, or Zenith, and not a visa decision. The legal name is the name on the payslip and on the pension schedule.

What each Nigerian payroll actually has to show
What the officer is looking atMTN network engineerUBA or Zenith banker
Employer on the payslipMTN Nigeria Communications PlcUnited Bank for Africa Plc, or Zenith Bank Plc
Who signs the leave letterMTN Human ResourcesThe bank’s Human Resources, not the branch manager
How the credit arrivesA payroll credit from MTN into the engineer’s own bankAn internal salary on a UBA account, or an internal salary on a Zenith account
PAYEThe state printed on the payslip. Lagos staff point at LIRSSame test. Marina and Victoria Island staff are still Lagos PAYE if the payslip says Lagos
PenCom employer lineMTN Nigeria Communications PlcThe bank’s Plc name, not “Zenith” or “UBA” as a nickname
What gets sent by mistakeMTN’s CAC printout, or a cash site allowance that never hit the accountThe bank statement alone, or a staff-loan credit described as salary

Lagos PAYE is collected by the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service. An engineer whose payslip tax line is Rivers, FCT, or another state sends that state’s record, not a Lagos one.

Worked nets, not the company’s salary scale

The pension, PAYE, and cooperative lines are the amounts on these two worked payslips. They are not the tax table and not what MTN or the bank pays every grade. CAD uses the ExchangeRate-API mid-market rate on 28 September 2026.

Worked nets, not the company’s salary scale

Employee pension₦68,000₦49,600
PAYE printed on the payslip₦95,000₦72,000
Staff cooperativeNone on this payslip₦15,000
Net that should hit the account₦687,000₦483,400

Worked examples, not a court file and not your grade. The letter’s annual package is larger than the net. Housing, transport, and a field allowance count only when they are on the payslip and in the credit. CAD uses ExchangeRate-API on 28 September 2026: ₦974.117769 per CAD. A bureau de change will not use this rate.

A job is one of the home ties an officer checks. There are others.

If your file does not show the other ties, the officer can refuse you again. The free analysis shows the evidence that your file must have.

The HR letter names the day you resume, in the company’s name

For the worked MTN engineer, Human Resources writes on MTN letterhead that the network engineer resumes on 11 August 2026. For the worked banker, Human Resources writes on UBA or Zenith letterhead that the banking officer resumes on 4 May 2026. A letter that only says “employed” does not give the officer a date.

The staff number on the letter matches the payslip. Leave that covers a one-way ticket does not. A team-lead WhatsApp, or a branch officer signing for a colleague, is not Human Resources.

MTN’s CAC and the bank’s CAC are not your salary

You do not own MTN or the bank. Their incorporation certificate does not explain your net pay. If the credits are payroll, the packet is the payslip, the HR letter, and the PenCom line in that employer’s legal name. The Nigeria refusal page is for a business you own.

A job is one factor. It is not the whole test

Home ties on a Nigerian file are still the Certificate of Occupancy, the children who stay, and a dated reason you are back. Those papers are on the Nigeria home ties page.

Whether you will leave Canada is IRPR section 179(b). The salary shows income and a place to return to work. It does not replace property in your name, children who stay, or the funds sentence on the letter.

The test does not change by country

Whether you will leave Canada is IRPR section 179. That rule is the same for every passport. Read the letter, change the file before you pay again, and treat a lump and weak ties as their own pages. This page is only the local paper.

Nigeria only. Do not send another country’s registration.

Proof of employment Canada visitor visa Nigeria FAQ

I work at MTN. Do I upload MTN’s CAC certificate with the payslip?

No. The payslip, the HR letter, and the PenCom line have to say MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. MTN’s incorporation papers are the company’s, not your salary.

I bank with Zenith and I also work at Zenith. Is the statement enough?

No. Salary on a Zenith account is an internal credit. A customer’s Zenith statement has the same logo. Human Resources has to name you, the grade, and the resumption date. The same applies at UBA.

The bank’s letter states an annual package, and the account shows less. Which figure is the salary?

The net on the payslip, after PAYE, pension, and the staff cooperative if that line is there. A package that includes a cash site allowance or a staff loan is not the credit.
