A Kenyan salary is the P9 and the NSSF statement, not a CR12

M-Pesa is a Kenyan salary only when the payer is the employer on the letter
A Kenyan job is the P9 the employer files with KRA, the payslips, and an NSSF statement that names that employer. The worked gross is KSh 120,000. PAYE on that payslip is KSh 22,400. The NSSF employee line on it is KSh 2,160. Net is KSh 95,440.
A CR12 lists directors and shareholders. That is the Kenya refusal page. An M-Pesa credit is salary only when the payer is the employer named on the letter. A till payment from customers is the business, and it belongs with the CR12 if you claimed the company.
Worked Kenyan salary, not an M-Pesa till
One employer. PAYE and the NSSF line are the amounts on that payslip. CAD uses the ExchangeRate-API mid-market rate on 28 September 2026.
| Line | Worked figure | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Gross | KSh 120,000 | The salary on the P9 |
| PAYE | KSh 22,400 | The tax line on the payslip |
| NSSF employee line | KSh 2,160 | The line the NSSF statement should show |
| Net paid | KSh 95,440 | The credit, including an M-Pesa credit from this employer |
| Six months of that net | KSh 572,640 | CAD $6,228.86 |
| Back at the desk | 16 September 2026 | Leave on the worked letter is 1 September through 15 September 2026 |
Worked example, not a court file and not your salary. CAD uses ExchangeRate-API on 28 September 2026: KSh 91.933394 per CAD. A bank will not use this rate. NSSF is nssf.or.ke. The P9 sits with KRA.
A job is one of the home ties an officer checks. There are others.
If your file does not show the other ties, the officer can refuse you again. The free analysis shows the evidence that your file must have.
Start the free analysisThe employer letter has to name the day you are back at the desk
The worked letter for this Kenyan salary approves leave and says the person is back at work on 16 September 2026. A letter that only says “employed” does not show a date the officer can put next to the trip.
The letter is on the employer’s letterhead, names the job, and matches the name on the payslip. Leave dates that overlap a one-way ticket do not help.
A CR12 does not prove a salary
Send the CR12 only if you claimed the company. A job is the P9 and NSSF. The Kenya refusal page is the company file.
A job is one factor. It is not the whole test
Home ties on a Kenyan file are still the land-title search, the children who stay, and a dated reason you are back. Those papers are on the Kenya home ties page. A parent’s shamba is still not your title.
Whether you will leave Canada is IRPR section 179(b). The salary shows income and a place to return to work. It does not replace property in your name, children who stay, or the funds sentence on the letter.
The test does not change by country
Whether you will leave Canada is IRPR section 179. That rule is the same for every passport. Read the letter, change the file before you pay again, and treat a lump and weak ties as their own pages. This page is only the local paper.

Proof of employment Canada visitor visa Kenya FAQ
My Kenyan salary arrives by M-Pesa. Do I send the whole M-Pesa statement?
Send the entries whose payer is the employer on the letter, and the payslip for that net. Customer payments into a till are not this page.
Is a county business permit the Kenyan employment paper?
No. A permit is not the P9 and it is not the NSSF statement.

ImmigrationDM makes it easy to respond to a Canada visitor visa refusal.
You can use the Refusal Analysis to read the officer's reasons and see the missing paper. It asks about country, purpose, funds, and home ties, then you paste the letter. You get the concerns in order and the documents that prove each claim.
The free checkers test the money side of the file before you submit. The Source of Funds Checker shows whether the file explains where the money came from. The Trip Cost Checker compares the trip you typed with the balance you typed.

How to read the refusal letter
The letter cites IRPR 179(b) when the officer wasn't satisfied you'll leave Canada. Read the factors under that line before you apply again.
Read the guideWhat to change before you pay again
Match each factor on the letter to the document that answers it. Sending the same file again rarely changes the result.
Read the guideYou can reapply. There is no waiting period.
IRCC doesn't set a cooling-off period. The next officer already has the refused file, so the new one has to be different.
Read the guideWhen a lump does not match income
A large closing balance doesn't show where the money came from, whether you can use it, or whether income continues.
